Ambassadors of the King

Sermon 20 November 2022 (Christ the King)

Ambassadors of the King by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary:  We use many relationship terms when we talk about Jesus Christ: our Friend, our Messiah, our Propitiation, our Ransom, our Redeemer, our Savior, our Shepherd … but how often do we think of Him as our King? More importantly, how often do we live like He is our King? Perhaps the most comprehensive word to describe our Lord Jesus Christ is our Reconciler, because it is not only about what He has done for us. It’s about why He did it, and what it means for our life in Him.

Lectionary: Jeremiah 23:1-6; Psalm 46; Colossians 1:13-20; Luke 23:33-43

Referenced Scriptures: Colossians 1:21-23; 2 Corinthians 5:14-21

Sermon 06 November 2022 (Proper 27)

Guard the good deposit to the end by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary:  Job was faithful and conscientious. His friends were proud and self-righteous. Job was humble, but he knew he was right. He had a faithful heart and kept holding on to faith in God even as he questioned the fairness of life. Job held fast … and Paul tells the Thessalonians, “Hold fast”. So what is it we are to hold fast to?

Referenced Scriptures: Job 1:1-5; Job 1:8; Job 2:9-10; James 4:6; Luke 18:14; Proverbs 7:3; 1 Timothy 6:20-21; 2 Timothy 1:13-14

Zacchaeus had two keys…. by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary:  “Zacchaeus was a wee little man….” Well, maybe not wee, but he was short. He wanted to see who Jesus was, so he chose to go early and reserve a spot where he could see. Of all the multitudes Jesus saw that day He chose to honor Zacchaeus with His presence. But why Zacchaeus? What made him so special? It was because Zacchaeus had two keys…..

Jesus as He is, or as you want Him to be?

Sermon 16 October 2022 (Proper 24)

Jesus as He is, or as you want Him to be? by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary:  God offered of Himself to Jacob, and Jacob held on to Him even when it became difficult for him. Paul instructs Timothy to hold on to the truth, to preach it and teach it whether people receive it or not. We, too, are responsible for learning the truth as Jesus delivered it, and avoid teachers who tell us what our itching ears want to hear. As we are faithful in both learning and teaching the truth, we prepare the way for the Son of Man, when He returns, to find faith on the earth.

Lectionary: Genesis 32:22-31; Psalm 121:1-8; 2 Timothy 3:14-4:5; Luke 18:1-8

Referenced Scriptures: Psalm 119:33-40; 2 Peter 1:19-21; 1 Corinthians 3:11-15; Matthew 24:24; 1 Corinthians 10:6-12; Matthew 5:3; Matthew 19:23
