Why should we NEVER give up on anyone?

So Jesus got into a boat, crossed over, and came to His own city. 2 Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.”

3 And at once some of the scribes said within themselves, “This Man blasphemes!”

4 But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts? 5 For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise and walk’? 6 But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins”—then He said to the paralytic, “Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.” 7 And he arose and departed to his house.

– Matthew 9:1-7 (The Gospel from today’s lectionary)

Why should we NEVER give up on anyone, no matter how far from Jesus they are in their heart? “When Jesus saw THEIR FAITH” – Jesus did not look upon the faith of the paralytic, but on the faith of the friends.

Make it your mission to always pray for others – your family, your children, your friends … whether they’ve wandered away or are in downright rebellion against God – because in your prayers you are carrying them into the presence of Jesus. May He look on YOUR FAITH, forgive their sins, and change their lives!

Jesus ascended, leaving us … what?

Sermon 13 May 2018  (Ascension Sunday)

Jesus ascended, leaving us … what? by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary:  Jesus told the disciples what their mission would be, confirmed He would send what the Father had promised, and instructed them to stay in the city until they had received it; then He left.  Jesus won the victory, then gave His disciples and those who would follow the responsibility and the authority to make it real in the earth.  The mission is humanly impossible … so He commands us not to begin until we have received His power.  But be careful what you ask for: to whom much is given, from him much will be required.

Lectionary: Acts 1:1-11; Psalm 47:1-9; Ephesians 1:15-23; Luke 24:44-53

Referenced Scriptures:  Luke 10:1-4; Luke 10:17; Matthew 28:18-20; John 17:20-23; Luke 12:48b

Sermon 06 May 2018  (Easter 6)

Called to be broken bread and poured out wine by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary:  God identifies who is His own by giving His Holy Spirit, making it evident to all.  Love is measured by obedience.  We overcome the world by obeying God regardless of consequences.  Jesus chose you to bear fruit that will last.  Break your bread, pour out your wine, and lay down your life.

Lectionary: Acts 10:44-48; Psalm 98; 1 John 5:1-6; John 15:9-17

Referenced Scriptures:  2 Peter 3:9; Luke 22:19-20
