Sermon 27 Jan 2019

The context of spiritual warfare by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary:  Good vs evil.  God has no equal.  Faithful angels vs satan and the fallen angels.  Humans are captives of satan until they determine to follow God.  The enemy is a deceiver who can appear as an angel of light and quote Scripture.  We must prepare, and we must fight.

Lectionary: Nehemiah 8:1-10; Psalm 19:1-14; 1 Corinthians 12:12-20; Luke 4:14-21

Referenced Scriptures: Revelation 12:4; Revelation 9:1b; 2 Corinthians 11:14; Matthew 4:5-6; Ephesians 6:10-20

What is spiritual warfare?

Sermon 20 Jan 2019

What is spiritual warfare? by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary:  From the very beginning man understood that God builds into every created thing its essence, its meaning.  The culture of our day, however, has adopted satan’s lie that created things have meaning only as it is assigned by another human.  This lie allows a wanted baby to be a blessing requiring protection, while an unwanted baby is a pestilence requiring destruction.  Our battle against satan is primarily a battle against this lie.

Spiritual warfare is more than belief; it is more than quoting Scripture; it is more than praying.  Spiritual warfare is ultimately refusing to do the works of the devil, and choosing to do the works of God.  Faith without works is dead.

Lectionary: Jeremiah 31:10-17; Psalm 10; 1 Corinthians 15:19-26; Matthew 18:1-5

Referenced Scriptures: Genesis 1:27; Ephesians 6:12; James 2:14-17,20-23; 1 John 3:8b; 1 Corinthians 15:57

ALL things work together for good

Sermon 13 Jan 2019

ALL things work together for good by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary:  “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”  This Scripture does not mean they will seem good at the time, or that they will seem good to you personally.  God sometimes asks us to do the seemingly unnecessary; do it anyway.  Push the rock.

Lectionary: Isaiah 42:1-7; Psalm 29:1-11; Acts 10:34-38; Luke 3:15-16, 21-22

Referenced Scriptures: Romans 8:26-28; 1 Corinthians 2:16-3:3; Matthew 3:15-17

Sermon 06 Jan 2019

Arise! by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary:  Isaiah 60:1-6 is a prophecy to Israel, but it is also a spiritual prophecy to anyone who belongs to Jesus Christ.  The light of Christ has shone on each of us, but has it made a difference in us?  If not, or if the difference has grown old and stale … Jesus is still waiting, still calling, still seeking.  Let the light in, so that it may shine out through you..

Lectionary: Isaiah 60:1-6; Psalm 72:1-17; Ephesians 3:1-12; Matthew 2:1-12

Referenced Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 4:3-6; Luke 14:16-24; John 15:1-16
