Sermon 28 Apr 2019

Where is the Church? by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary:  After Christ’s crucifixion the disciples were hiding from the Sanhedrin behind locked doors.  Weeks later they were standing before the Sanhedrin boldly proclaiming Christ.  Something changed, and that something was Pentecost.  Pentecost marks the birth of the Church.  We are the Church, and our distinguishing characteristic is sacrificial love.

Lectionary:  Acts 5:27-32; Psalm 111; Revelation 1:4-8; John 20:19-31

Referenced Scriptures:  Matthew 16:16; Acts 2:1-4; John 13:31-35; John 15:12-14; 1 Corinthians 12:12-26

Sermon 21 Apr 2019  Easter Sunday

For this life, or the next? by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary: If Christ has not been raised from the dead, the Apostles’ testimonies are lies and their preaching – along with my preaching and your faith – is futile and you are still in your sins.  You can choose to live a futile life, or to live the eternal life for which you were designed.

Lectionary: Acts 10:34-43; Psalm 118:14-24; 1 Corinthians 15:19-26; Luke 24:1-12

Referenced Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 15:12-18; Romans 12:1; 2 Timothy 2:11-13; Luke 14:16-24

Sermon 14 Apr 2019  Palm Sunday

The way of the servant by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary: Everyone agrees there are great problems in our world today.  In the world, everyone’s answer to every problem is the same: “Everyone else must give me what I want, what I deserve.”  Jesus Christ has already provided the answer to every problem, but His answer is just the opposite of the world’s answer.

Lectionary: Luke 19:28-40; Isaiah 50:4-9; Psalm 31:1-24; Philippians 2:5-11; Luke 23:1-25

Referenced Scriptures: John 19:1-3; Matthew 26:67-68; Matthew 27:28-31; Revelation 12:10; Luke 23:46; Matthew 27:46; Psalm 22:1; Luke 14:8-11; Luke 9:21-24; Mark 10:42-45

Sermon 07 Apr 2019

Press on! by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary: You are called to be like Jesus.  You must fight the world, the flesh, and the devil in order to move forward.  Trials will come, but joy will follow.  Don’t fight only against that which is painful; fight also against selfish pleasures which will hinder your faith far more than any sickness or disease.

Lectionary: Isaiah 43:16-21; Psalm 126; Philippians 3:4b-14; John 8:2-11

Referenced Scriptures: Romans 8:28-29; Psalm 30:5b, 11-12; John 15:5; Philippians 4:13
