Sermon 28 June 2020 (ICCEC Foundation Day)

Do you grieve the Holy Spirit? by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary:  Hananiah and Jeremiah prophesied into a specific situation, but Hananiah’s words were not God’s words: they were what he wished to be true. How do we know if we’re interpreting the Word like Jeremiah, or misinterpreting it like Hananiah? Going further, how do we know if we’re a slave of sin, or a servant of God?

Lectionary: Jeremiah 28:5-9, 15-17; Psalm 89:1-4, 7-10, 15-18, 50-52; Romans 6:16-23; Matthew 10:37-42

Referenced Scriptures: Psalm 89:27, 38-49; Proverbs 3:11-12 ; Hebrews 12:5-6; 2 Peter 3:9; James 4:6; Jeremiah 28:1-4, 10-14; Genesis 27:40; Isaiah 14:25; Jeremiah 27:9-10; Jeremiah 29:5-7; Hebrews 4:12; 2 Timothy 2:15; Romans 6:11-15; John 16:8; Romans 8:2; 1 Corinthians 3:16; Acts 1:8; Galatians 5:22-23; Ephesians 4:30; 2 Corinthians 13:5; 1 John 1:6-7; 1 John 2:15-16; Matthew 7:23

Sermon 21 June 2020

No reserve, no retreat, no regret by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary:  If you stand with the Lord you will encounter all manner of opposition.  You are immersed in a culture that increasingly demands you depart from standing for the Lord. How will you respond? Your answer can change the world.

Referenced Scriptures: Jeremiah 18:1-18; Matthew 7:21-23; Psalm 91:7-8; Matthew 4:4; Matthew 6:33; Daniel 1-12; Matthew 6:21; Colossians 3:17

Sermon 14 June 2020

What manner of person ought you to be? by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary:  Our enemy satan turns every controversy into a war between two blocks: you must be part of one or the other, there is no middle ground. We must not fall into his trap, but we cannot take no action at all, either. So what should we do?

Lectionary: Exodus 19:1-9a; Psalm 50:1-7, 14-23; Romans 5:1-8; Matthew 10:1-8

Referenced Scriptures: Genesis 3:4-5; Matthew 5:13-16; Matthew 5:43-48; Luke 9:23-25; Matthew 5:39-42; Matthew 9:13; 2 Peter 3:9-12

Sermon 07 June 2020  (Trinity Sunday)

Satan divides, God unites by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary:  Jesus gave us a number of signs of His coming again, and we are seeing all of them in our world today. But we were made in the image of God, and are predestined to be conformed to the image of Christ. So how do we respond to the events occurring in our world? (Hint: If you think and speak and act like the world, if there is no difference between you and the world … why would anyone choose to follow the Jesus you follow rather than follow the world?)

Lectionary: Genesis 1:26-2:4; Psalm 8:1-9; 2 Corinthians 13:5-14; Matthew 28:16-20

Referenced Scriptures: Proverbs 10:19; Proverbs 17:27-28; James 1:19-20; Matthew 24:3-14; John 15:26; John 10:30; Genesis 1:27; Romans 8:29; Revelation 12; Matthew 12:25; Luke 12:51-53; 2 Corinthians 6:14-16; Galatians 6:9-10; Matthew 5:43-45

Pentecost is empowerment

Sermon 31 May 2020  (Pentecost)

Pentecost is empowerment by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary:  The Jewish feast of Pentecost celebrated the promise of the Old Covenant, the giving of the law to Moses on Mt. Sinai 50 days after the killing of the Paschal lamb during Passover. In Acts, the promise of the New Covenant came on Pentecost, 50 days after the Resurrection of the Lamb of God. In both cases, God’s descent was primarily for the benefit of those who observed it, not those who experienced it.

Lectionary: Acts 2:1-21; Psalm 104:24-35; 1 Corinthians 12:3-13; John 7:37-39

Referenced Scriptures: Exodus 19:18; John 4:35-38; Numbers 11:29; 1 Corinthians 14:5; Acts 1:4-8; Ephesians 6:10-12; John 10:10; John 20:21-22; Joel 2:28-32
