Sermon 21 March 2021 (Lent 4)

Do you love Me more than these? by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary:  Jesus’ destiny was to die like a grain of wheat to produce a harvest of salvation. Our destiny is to be conformed to His image, to die to ourselves. This involves maturing from a self-directed life to a Christ-directed life … but beware of Satan’s lure to turn aside into a new self-directed lie.

Lectionary:  Jeremiah 31:31-34; Psalm 51; Hebrews 5:5-10; John 12:20-28

Referenced Scriptures:  Romans 8:28-29; Hebrews 5:11-14; Galatians 6:9; Zechariah 4:10; Haggai 2:3-9; Hebrews 12:27-28; John 21:15-19; Joshua 24:15

Sermon 07 March 2021 (Lent 3)

Examine, cleanse, and rebuild by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary:  When Jesus entered the temple courts He noted the worldly activities that were going on. He made a whip and drove out those who were responsible along with all their goods, to make room for the holy activities that should have been taking place. This holy season of Lent is a time for us to allow Jesus to do the same thing in our hearts and in our church: to examine what is going on, to cleanse what should not be there, and to make room for us to rebuild with materials that are eternal.

Lectionary:  Exodus 20:1-17; Psalm 19:1-14; 1 Corinthians 1:18-25; John 2:13-22

Referenced Scriptures:  1 Corinthians 3:10-15; 1 Corinthians 6:19; Matthew 7:23; Luke 9:23

Sermon 28 February 2021 (Lent 2)

A new hope by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary:  As part of God’s Old Testament covenant Abram was to receive a new life of walking before God faithfully. Abram was not to be just a signatory (a “signer”) of the covenant, but an active participant in it. The same is true of us in the new covenant. It comes with trials and hardships, but God provides the one thing we need to fulfill our part.

Lectionary:  Genesis 17:1-7, 15-16; Psalm 22:22-31; Romans 4:13-18; Mark 8:31-38

Referenced Scriptures:  Romans 4:19, Psalm 22:1-21, Matthew 6:17-18
