Sermon 16 Jun 2019  Trinity Sunday

A time for revising by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary:  Good parents provide for their children, protect them, but also teach them – not just facts, but responsibility for others and for their own actions.  Our heavenly Father does the same.  He also gives exams so that we can see our progress and identify what is lacking in our lives.  We are called to mature in Christlikeness: examine your past tests, and spend time revising* for the tests to come … for they will come.

* The English meaning of preparing for an examination, not the American meaning of editing a manuscript

Lectionary:  Isaiah 59:15-21; Psalm 29; Romans 5:1-5; John 16:5-15

Referenced Scriptures:  Matthew 6:24; Luke 19:11-26; Ephesians 2:8-10

Sermon 02 Jun 2019

Doing God’s will God’s way by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary:  Paul preached the Gospel, which is able to break everyone’s chains, but not everyone is looking for freedom.  The jailer was in chains, too: his fate was bound up in the performance of his job.  The Gospel breaks chains that aren’t visible, on people who don’t even know they are bound!  The miracle was not performed for those who minister, but for the sake of those who receive ministry!  “You cannot do God’s will your way” (Primate Craig Bates).

Lectionary:  Acts 16:16-34; Psalm 98:1-9; Revelation 22:12-17; John 17:20-26

Referenced Scriptures:  none
