Sermon 11 March 2018  (Lent 4)

Believing is not enough by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary:  When the Israelites were punished with deadly snakes, God didn’t heal them directly.  He provided the means for their healing, but they had to do something to receive it.  This is how God operates, even for our salvation through Jesus Christ:  He provides the gift and the means to receive it, but we must act in order to take hold of the gift and make it our own.  He has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, but we must act to take possession and use them.  Sometimes we must fight.

Lectionary:  Numbers 21:4-9; Psalm 107:1-3, 17-22; Ephesians 2:1-9; John 3:14-21

Referenced Scriptures:  2 Peter 1:2-4; John 1:11-13; John 3:3b; Ephesians 6:10-13
