You are loved with an everlasting love

Sermon 23 Dec 2018

You are loved with an everlasting love by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary:  God loves you – personally – more than you can imagine.  His love never fails.  Satan destroys relationships by lying about that fact.  Christmas is all about restoring relationships.

Rejoice?

Sermon 16 Dec 2018

Rejoice? by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary:  Advent is a little lent, a time to examine ourselves and evaluate our walk with the Lord.  It is also a time to rejoice.  How can these two seemingly opposing sentiments be compatible?

To become a mature disciple

Sermon 09 Dec 2018

Lectionary: Malachi 3:1-4; Psalm 12:1-8; Philippians 1:3-11; Luke 3:1-6

Referenced Scriptures: Acts 6:1-7; 1 Peter 2:4-5

Therefore brothers and sisters

Sermon 18 Nov 2018

Therefore brothers and sisters by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary: We are adopted brothers and sisters of Christ, not competitors or opponents.  We win by spurring one another on toward love and good deeds, not by elbowing each other out of the way or trampling one another in our striving to be first or best.  We are specifically commanded not to neglect gathering together, so that we do not separate from the flock and walk away once we have known the Truth.

Lectionary: Daniel 12:1-10; Psalm 16:1-11; Hebrews 10:19-25; Mark 13:5-13

Referenced Scriptures: Galatians 4:1-7; Hebrews 10:26-29

Are you one of the many, or the few?

Sermon 11 Nov 2018

Are you one of the many, or the few? by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary: The people of Jesus’ hometown Nazareth, who were Jews (to whom the Messiah was sent), rejected the miraculous provision of God because they thought they knew who Jesus was based on their past experience.  The widow of Zarephath, a Gentile, received the miraculous provision of God because she gave what little she had to Elijah.  Which are you?

Lectionary: 1 Kings 17:8-16; Psalm 71; Hebrews 9:24-28; Mark 12:38-44

Referenced Scriptures: Luke 4:16-26; Matthew 6:33

Does the world know you?

Sermon 04 Nov 2018

Does the world know you? by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary: We are called to be conformed to the image of Jesus.  When we become like Him, the world will not know us just as they did not know Him.  How well does the world know you?

Who will go with Christ?

Sermon 21 Oct 2018

Who will go with Christ? by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary: God told Moses, “No man shall see Me and live”, yet men and women of all kinds looked intently into Jesus’ face.  When Jesus became incarnate He sacrificed His awesome, intimidating nature to accomplish our redemption.  James and John thought it had all been accomplished, but there was much more sacrifice to come.  The same is true for us.

Lectionary: Isaiah 53:4-12; Psalm 91:9-16; Hebrews 5:1-10; Mark 10:35-45

Referenced Scriptures: Exodus 33:18-23, Isaiah 52:14; Isaiah 53:2

Whom shall I send?

Sermon 14 Oct 2018

Whom shall I send? by Fr. Dana

Simple Summary: The groundwork has been laid.  The time for training for doing and for leading has come.  There are three things we must all do to move forward:  acknowledge we are unworthy and unable in our own strength; allow the Lord to burn away all that is not from Him; and answer His call, not just with words but with actions.

Lectionary: Amos 5:6-7, 10-15; Psalm 90:12-17; Hebrews 4:14-16; Mark 10:17-27  (sermon not from lectionary)

Referenced Scriptures: Isaiah 6:1-9, Ephesians 6:12
